Wikipedia - Municipal Grecia

Municipal Grecia is an association football club based in Grecia, Costa Rica. Founded in 1998, the club will make their debut in the Liga FPD after being promoted from the Liga de Ascenso.

The team plays in the Estadio Allen Riggioni.

History

In 1998, the people from Grecia, led by former deputy Everardo Rodríguez, decided to give the people of the canton a new sports option. Feeling the need of having an own football club which competed in a non-amateur level. Having taken over the franchise of American FC, the club was founded on 16 August 1998. The club made its debut on 13 September 1998 by drawing 2–2 with Puriscal FC.

During its first decade, the team won the 2007 Apertura Championship in the Costa Rican Liga de Ascenso. On mid-2017 the club, managed by former Saprissa and Costa Rica captain Walter Centeno, defeated Jicaral to win the 2017 Clausura tournament, thus qualifying to a promotion play-off. Grecia would defeat Jicaral again to achieve the promotion to the Liga FPD for the first time.

Het voetbalteam van Griekenland, ook bekend als Grecia, is een sportclub uit de stad Grecia in Costa Rica. Het team werd in 1990 opgericht en heeft sindsdien een rijke geschiedenis in het Costa Ricaanse voetbal.

Grecia staat bekend om zijn sterke aanvallende lijn en zijn vastberaden verdediging. Het team heeft een lange lijst met successen op zijn naam, waaronder:

* Twee Costa Ricaanse kampioenschappen: 1999 en 2015
* Drie Costa Ricaanse bekers: 1997, 2003 en 2014
* Een UNCAF Champions Cup: 2003

Grecia heeft ook internationaal succes geboekt en vertegenwoordigde Costa Rica in verschillende CONCACAF-toernooien, waaronder de CONCACAF Champions League.

Het thuisstadion van Grecia is het Estadio Allen Riggioni Suarez, dat plaats biedt aan ongeveer 10.000 toeschouwers. Het stadion staat bekend om zijn enthousiaste fans en geweldige sfeer tijdens wedstrijden.

De clubkleuren van Grecia zijn geel en blauw, en het team wordt ook wel "Los Guerreros del Sur" (De Krijgers van het Zuiden) genoemd vanwege hun felle en vastberaden speelstijl.

Grecia is een belangrijke club in het Costa Ricaanse voetbal en staat bekend om zijn talentvolle spelers, toegewijde fans en rijke geschiedenis.
