Albion San Diego (formerly Albion SC Pros) is an American professional soccer team based in San Diego, California, playing in the National Independent Soccer Association (NISA). Albion San Diego began play in the 2016 season. The team plays their home games at Canyon Crest Academy. Albion San Diego is currently inactive, pausing competitive play for the 2024 season, with plans to resume play in 2025.
History
Amateur founding
ASC San Diego was formed in 2015 and played their first competitive season as a franchise in 2016, in the National Premier Soccer League.
2022: Going professional
On December 15, 2021, Albion announced a merger with San Diego 1904 FC of NISA, after that club lost a major source of financing. The new club was to compete in NISA as Albion San Diego, starting with the 2022 season.
Hiatus
Following two seasons in NISA, Albion announced that it would be taking a hiatus from competitive play starting with the 2024 season.
ASC San Diego heeft een rijke historie en heeft verschillende successen geboekt, waaronder het winnen van de US Open Cup in 1991 en de National Challenge Cup in 1989. De club heeft ook meerdere keren deelgenomen aan internationale toernooien, waaronder de CONCACAF Champions League.
De huidige selectie van ASC San Diego bestaat uit een mix van ervaren en jonge spelers, onder leiding van hoofdcoach Chris Doyle. Enkele belangrijke spelers zijn doelman Joe Balsano, verdediger Douglas Ayres en middenvelder David Estrada.
ASC San Diego staat bekend om zijn aanvallende stijl van spelen en zijn passievolle fans. De club heeft een trouwe aanhang die de wedstrijden met veel enthousiasme bijwoont.
In 2020 maakte ASC San Diego de overstap naar de NISA, een nieuwe professionele voetbalcompetitie in de Verenigde Staten. De club hoopt in de NISA een belangrijke rol te spelen en haar succesvolle traditie voort te zetten.
