Wikipedia - A Divizion

De A Divizion (Grieks: Πρωτάθλημα Α' Κατηγορίας) is de hoogste voetbaldivisie op Cyprus die door de Cypriotische voetbalbond wordt georganiseerd. Sinds februari 2016 is de sponsornaam Cyta championship, van 2007-2016 was de sponsornaam Marfin Laiki League.

In deze competitie spelen twaalf clubs waarvan de onderste twee clubs degraderen naar de B' Kategoria. Zoals Cyprus er nu voor staat op de UEFA-coëfficiëntenranglijst plaatst de kampioen zich voor de voorronde van de UEFA Champions League. De nummers twee en drie en de winnaar van de Beker van Cyprus plaatsen zich voor de voorronde van de UEFA Europa Conference League. De competitie bestaat uit 12 clubs en er zijn 22 reguliere wedstrijden. Iedereen speelt twee keer tegen elkaar, 1x thuis en 1x uit. De nummers 1 t/m 6 spelen nog een keer twee keer tegen elkaar voor het kampioenschap. De nummers 7 t/m 12 spelen tegen elkaar wie de twee degradanten zijn.

Cyprus - A Divizion is de hoogste voetbaldivisie in Cyprus. De competitie werd opgericht in 1934 en bestaat momenteel uit 14 teams. De competitie wordt normaal gesproken gespeeld van augustus tot mei, met een winterpauze van december tot januari. De kampioen van de A Divizion plaatst zich voor de eerste kwalificatieronde van de UEFA Champions League, terwijl de nummer twee en drie zich plaatsen voor de eerste kwalificatieronde van de UEFA Europa League. De onderste twee teams degraderen naar de B Divizion.
