Wikipedia - Liga Española de Baloncesto

The Liga Española de Baloncesto, also known as LEB Oro, is the second basketball division of the Spanish basketball league system after the Liga ACB. It is run by the FEB. The Liga Española de Baloncesto is divided into two categories (the other one is the LEB Plata). The LEB league was founded in 1996 and is played under FIBA rules. It was renamed LEB Oro in 2007.

The league is contested by 18 clubs. Each season, the top-finishing team in the LEB Oro are automatically promoted to the Liga ACB. The teams that finish the season in 2nd to 9th place enter a playoff tournament, with the winner also gaining promotion to the Liga ACB. The three lowest-finishing teams in the LEB Oro are relegated to LEB Plata.

A total of 81 teams have competed in LEB Oro since its inception in 1996. 19 teams have been crowned champions and 30 teams have gained promotion to Liga ACB, of which only four teams could not play in Liga ACB. Club Melilla Baloncesto is the only team that played all seasons of the league.

**Spanje - LEB Oro**

De LEB Oro, ook bekend als Liga Española de Baloncesto Oro, is het tweede hoogste niveau van basketbalcompetitie in Spanje. Het wordt georganiseerd door de Federación Española de Baloncesto (FEB) en bestaat uit 18 teams die strijden om promotie naar de Liga ACB, de hoogste basketbalcompetitie in Spanje.

**Geschiedenis**

De LEB Oro werd opgericht in 1997 als de Liga Española de Baloncesto Adecco Oro. In het begin bestond de competitie uit 16 teams, maar dat aantal werd later uitgebreid tot 18.

**Formaat**

De LEB Oro wordt gespeeld in een round-robin-formaat, waarbij elk team twee keer tegen elk ander team speelt, één keer thuis en één keer uit. De top twee teams aan het einde van het reguliere seizoen promoveren automatisch naar de Liga ACB. De teams die eindigen op de plaatsen 3 tot 8 spelen play-offs om te bepalen wie er ook promoveert.

De onderste twee teams aan het einde van het reguliere seizoen degraderen naar de LEB Plata, het derde hoogste niveau van basketbalcompetitie in Spanje.
